Sun Jun 06, 2010 3:18 pm
SHINIGAMI

Name: Ravana Ichiro

Gender: Male

Age: Around 500, appears around 25

Personality: Almost perfectly matching his appearance, Ravana's personality is quite different from what others may consider normal. For the most part, Ravana is a kind, yet somewhat "out there" character. He is always there willing to lend a hand, but at the same time, he might also start up a huge debate with you out of nothing. Because of this, although he may make many friends, he can just as easily make many enemies, or, at least people who don't like him. Putting away the argumentative side, some people also find that Ravana is simply annoying to them. Although they never really give a reason other than "because", it is most likely due to Ravana's unique personality. To put it simply, you either love him or you hate him.

Although almost overly friendly to most, Ravana easily becomes a klutz when it comes to girls. Sure, he doesn't have any problem with having girls as friends, but when it comes to girls he likes, Ravana is pretty much SOL. Ravana himself doesn't know weather this comes from a fear of rejection or just a simple shyness, but whatever the case, he has never had any luck with relationships, or even had one. After being rejected by a girl, Ravana will usually mope around for a bit, quite depressed. This, however, really only lasts for a few days, as he is easily back to his normal self after getting over it. Despite seemingly constant rejection, Ravana is still able to keep his spirits up, and will not hesitate to tell a girl how he feels, even if he does it in a clumsy manner.

Up until now, Ravana seems like a nice, if not goofy, person, with a few minor character flaws, but this is merely only one half of his personality. As a Shinigami, Ravana takes pride in his work, often being more serious than normal. Because he is more serious while on duty, others will often prefer this Ravana to his more annoying side. Then again, they would also probably prefer it if Ravana were to just go away, but we all know that won't happen. Ravana also has a deep desire to better himself both mentally and physically. Although he is seen as being quite smart (even if not always showing it) Ravana is always open to learning new things. Then again, he is also a bit of a smart ass, and will often think of himself as smarter than others. He also wishes to become stronger, a drive found in most creatures, but brought out more within Ravana.

When it comes to fighting, however, Ravana will finally show his fully serious side. Now, this is not to say that he automatically turns into Byakuya when he fights, but he is usually much more serious, concentrating on the battle at hand. Although a lot of this comes from his past, his seriousness when fighting also comes from his desire to better himself. Ravana tries to learn something from every battle, and even if he wins, is usually seen training himself to help cover up weaknesses that he saw during his fight. It is during times like these that Ravana can be seen at his full potential, and maybe even redeem himself at least a bit in the eyes of others.

So to sum it all up, Although Ravana is usually a friendly and goofy person, he knows when it is time to be serious. He enjoys making friends just as much as he enjoys debating. He has never been in a relationship, and probably will never get a girlfriend. To be blunt, it takes a certain type of person to actually like Ravana for who he is, but that doesn't stop him from trying to make more friends. Ever heard the saying "Quitters never prosper?" Well, that's one saying that Ravana lives by.

Appearance: Unlike most Shinigami, Ravana's appearance, at least his clothes, are a Chinese style of clothing. Because of this, Ravana sticks out quit a bit from any other Shinigami. Probably the biggest difference is the actual colors of his clothes. Instead of being just plain black, they are multiple colors found in many traditional Chinese styles. There are also many elaborate patterns found on his outfit, creating even more of a contrast between Ravana and other Shinigami. His left arm is covered by a glove-like section of armor, and he wears a glove on his right arm that extends to about half way up his forearm. Although some others might make fun of the way he dresses, Ravana is particularly content with his outfit.

Aside from his clothing, Ravana's physical appearance is also a bit different than most Shinigami. Standing at 6'3", he is one of the taller Shinigami, standing feet above many of his fellow Shinigami. His hair is gray, but it is also black at the very base. Ravana also has a tanner skin tone compared to many of his fellow white Shinigami. He has green eyes and a distinct scar on his left cheek. Although this may make him look a bit intimidating when serious, Ravana is easily seen as somewhat of a "fool" when relaxing.

Although he tries to keep a calm and cool face when working, Ravana is prone to many different facial expressions, all reflections of the mood he is in. Because of this, many people think of him as a clown, but he is actually quite serious; he just only shows it when he needs to be. Although not strict about it, Ravana usually stands up straight, although he may slouch after standing for a while or if he is just bored. Because his outward appearance can change due to his mood, Ravana can be seen as one of many types of people, making him the one and only Ravana.

Zanpakutô Name: Lóng Fènnù (lit. Dragon Rage in Chinese)

Zanpakutô Spirit: Lóng Fènnù, the spirit of Ravana's Zanpakuto, is a unique spirit. The embodiment of a Dragons strength and rage, Lóng Fènnù takes the form of a traditional Chinese Dragon. In ancient China, such Dragons were revered as sacred beasts, and Lóng Fènnù holds all of the pride one would expect from these legends. As a traditional Chinese Dragon, Lóng Fènnù has a long, snake-like body covered in scales. His head is similar to a normal dragons, but it has two deer-like antlers on top of its head. In addition, it has a mane of fire-like hair and his entire back is covered in spines. In comparison to Ravana, Lóng Fènnù is gigantic; Ravana only being the size of one of his feet. Despite this size difference, the two have no trouble communicating. When he materializes in the real world, however, Lóng Fènnù reduces his size, but is still quite large.

To sum up Lóng Fènnù personality, he is an old and powerful Dragon spirit, found many places throughout Chinese mythology. Some legends claim that he is the god of power, while others tell of a wicked and deceptive demon. In all reality, Lóng Fènnù is more of an arrogant and seemingly apathetic character; although he is prone to fits of rage. Because of the legends and of his reputation, Lóng Fènnù tends to think quite highly of himself; often viewing others as weak. Despite this, he has accepted Ravana as his wielder, allowing him access to his powers. Then again, Lóng Fènnù hardly ever lets up the opportunity to criticize Ravana about any aspect of his fighting style, often leading to an argument between the two.

Lóng Fènnù resides in the center of Ravana's inner world, surrounded by large cliffs and mountains. Despite the almost overwhelming grandeur, it has quite the scenery, wild Chinese trees in full bloom allover. The sky is covered by large clouds that partially dampen the sunlight, but not fully block it out. The sun in this realm is always apparently setting, giving everything a beautiful hue, ranging from red to purple to orange. Because of this, Ravana often enjoys just relaxing in his inner world, something that can really help calm his mind.

Sealed Zanpakutô: (Note: as seen in his appearance picture)
Fitting well with Ravana himself, his Zanpakuto is quite different from your average Zanpakuto. For starters, it is a Chinese-styled sword, instead of the traditional Japanese katana. It is also much more ornate than the typical Zanpakuto, having a golden hilt and pommel, as well as some ceremonial beads and a blue feather attached to the butt. In all honesty, it is a perfect representation of Ravana's own unique character. Ravana usually wears the hilt between his right side and his back.

Release Phrase: "Rage from the heavens! Lóng Fènnù!"

Shikai Description: Following suit with the Chinese styled weaponry, Ravana's Shikai takes on the form of a large, ornate Chinese bladed spear. The main body of the spear is a reddish-orange color, a color scheme seen throughout the spear. The main blade of the spear, however, is unlike anything seen in any other spear. The blade is quite large, appearing almost as if someone attached a normal sized sword to the top of a pole. As shown by it's odd shape, the spear is quite difficult to master, showing just how adept Ravana is at fighting and learning new styles.

Shikai Abilities: Although some might think that a Zanpakuto named after a dragon might have fire-based abilities, this is not the case. In it's shikai, Lóng Fènnù seems to focus on strength, as well as an unpredictable fighting style required to even use the spear. Although there is an increase in Ravana's overall speed, it is not as much as what other Shinigami would experience from releasing their shikai. It's main weak point, however, is defense. Although very capable for fighting to one full power, the speed is slightly lacking in defense, forcing the user to either dodge attacks or simply not allow their opponent to attack.

In addition to a focus on a powerful style of fighting, Lóng Fènnù's shikai also has a few energy-based attacks. These attacks are all fueled by reiatsu, but have no element themselves, making them useful against most opponents. All of these energy attacks seem to revolve around creating a dragon, very similar to Lóng Fènnù himself, out of energy and then sending it at the opponent. Because it is made of energy, the energy based attacks are a bit faster than Ravana's own physical attacks, and seem to be the main focus of Lóng Fènnù true powers.

Shikai Techniques:
Name: Lóng Luóxuán (lit. Dragon Spiral in Chinese)
Description: By spinning the spear rapidly above his head, Ravana can create the energy dragon in a vortex form. To launch this attack, he brings the blade down in a quick slash, sending the vortex straight towards his opponent. once it is fired, it will go in a straight direction until it hits something or runs out of energy. Ravana cannot control it's path after releasing it.

Name: Lóng Fāng (lit. Dragon Fang in Chinese)
Description: A seemingly simple technique, Ravana starts this off by storing energy into the blade of his spear. Once he has stored a sufficient amount, Ravana will slash downwards, releasing a long dragon made of energy towards the opponent. The energy dragon has it's jaws open wide, and upon impact will explode with all of it's energy, causing much damage. Although it can only go straight, it is quite quick and powerful, but is still limited to only going straight.

Name: Lóng lā Shén (lit. Dragon Rush in Chinese)
Description: Similar to Lóng Fāng, Ravana stores up energy into the blade of his spear. This time, however, to release the energy and form the dragon, Ravana stabs his spear forward, the dragon coming from the tip of the blade. Unlike his other two techniques, Ravana can control the direction of this attack, but he has to use his spear to do so; the direction the spear is pointing is the direction the attack will go. The main drawback to this is that to control it Ravana has to use his spear, meaning that if he's attacked before it hits his opponent, the attack is canceled and the dragon explodes where it is.

Bankai Name: Tiānshàng de Lóng Fènnù (lit. Heavenly Dragon Rage in Chinese)

Bankai Description: Keeping the old stereotype alive that all bankai are grand, Ravana's bankai, Tiānshàng de Lóng Fènnù, has a sense of grandure in even releasing it. To start off, after saying the name of his bankai, Ravana is surrounded by a swirling mass of reddish-orange energy. With all of his power, he hurls his shikai into the air, where it is consumed by the energy and takes the shape of a large dragon. Once formed, the dragon comes racing down towards Ravana, it's mouth wide open. In a burst of energy, the dragon explodes upon contact with Ravana, blocking him from view by a large cloud of smoke. Once the smoke clears, you get your first look at the true form oh Ravana's Zanpakuto.Although this release may seem drawn out, it only takes a few seconds to actually happen.

Ravana's bankai, however, does not disappoint in relation to the grandeur of it's release. For starters, both of his hands are now covered by Dragon heads, each resembling Lóng Fènnù's own head. The heads extend into two tails that go up Ravana's arms and past his shoulders for a foot or two. Both of the dragon's mouths are slightly, a large curved blade emerging from the mouth of each. Each of the blades are much larger than Ravana's own sealed Zanpakuto, but despite their size, Ravana can seemingly handle them with ease. Ravana's feet are also now clawed dragon feet, much like Lóng Fènnù's own. Ravana also gains an intricate tattoo on his face, looking like a dragons head.

Bankai Abilities: Following in the lines of his shikai, Ravana's Bankai grants him a vast ammount of power. Unlike his shikai, however, his speed is increased more, making him quite fast as well (no, not the fastest, lol). His defense, however, is still somewhat lacking. Despite the large size of the blades, Ravana is seemingly able to swing them with ease. Because they are almost like an extension of his own arms, he can use them much more efficiently. Just as with his shikai, Ravana's bankai also takes a unique and difficult to master style to fight efficiently with it, once again proving that Ravana is quite adept with His Zanpakuto.

For special attacks, Ravana maintains the energy based dragon attacks, still having no set element. Now, however, Ravana can create larger and stronger dragons out of the energy, as well as store the energy into his two blades to to create an explosion with his slashes. Ravana can also control the direction of the energy dragons more, making the attacks more lethal. Although his Zanpakuto doesn't have an element, it clearly doesn't need one. It can cover it's weaknesses, at least as long as it's wielder is skilled enough. It also doesn't fall victim to having an elemental weakness.

Bankai Techniques:
Name: Improved Lóng Luóxuán
Description: In bankai, instead of spinning a spear, Ravana will draw a circle in front of himself with his blade, and from that point, a larger version of the vortex will be fired. Ravana can fire off two of these at a time, using each blade to create a vortex. Although he can't change it's direction, Ravana can tilt the vortexes slightly to hit an opponent who is trying to dodge.

Name: Improved Lóng Fāng
Description: As in shikai, Ravana charges energy into his blade, and then slashes it forward to fire off a larger energy dragon. Ravana can fire off two of the dragons in succession, one from each blade. In addition to this, he can also control the direction of the dragons. The drawback is that both dragons will go in the same direction.

Name: Improved Lóng lā Shén
Description: As in shikai, Ravana still stores the energy into his blades, and stabs forward to create the larger energy dragons. Now, however, Ravana can fire two energy dragons at the same time, one from each blade, and they can also move independently of each other. Yes, this means that Ravana can control the direction of each energy dragon separately.

Name: Lóng Hún (lit. Dragon Soul in Chinese)
Description: By storing the energy of Lóng Fènnù himself, Ravana can enter into an all out "rage" state, known as Lóng Hún. While in this state, Ravana becomes much stronger, and feels no pain from any hits he takes or has taken. The drawback is that when he exits this state, he feels the full effect of all his wounds along with any hits he sustained during Lóng Hún. Because of this, it can be quite risky, like a double edged sword, and is usually saved for emergencies. Lóng Hún will last for 5 posts and can only be used once per battle due to strain.

Name: Lóng de Hūxī (lit. Dragon Breath in Chinese)
Description: to use this technique, Ravana must hold both of his blades directly in front of himself, pointed at his desired target. Using his blades as a conduit, he unleashes a large surge of Lóng Fènnù's energy, creating a large explosion right in front of himself. As you may have guessed, it's main drawback is its range, but it is perfect to land a devastating blow on an opponent Ravana just gave the slip.

Name: Final Technique, Lóngshén (lit. Dragon god in Chinese)
Description: probably the strongest attack Ravana has in his arsenal, Lóngshén is appropriately called Ravana's final technique. By summoning forth a vast ammount of energy, Ravana can literally materialize Lóng Fènnù himself to preform a devestating blow upon his opponent. Due to Lóng Fènnù's sheer size, the attack is quite hard to dodge, and is packed with all of his power. The drawback is the sheer amount of energy needed to maintain Lóng Fènnù. This is only a last ditch desperation move, only for use if all other moves have failed. Afterwards, Ravana will usually collapse from the stress. Limited to 1 use per battle, and only a fair ways into the battle.

History/Background: Born around 500 years ago in China, Ravana's story starts off within a noble house of old China. Although not one of the most powerful of the noble families, Ravana's family was well enough off to provide him with a privileged childhood. Unlike many of the peasants Ravana received a good education and even training in martial arts. His immediate family included himself, two sisters, and his parents, but his grandparents as well as other members of the family lived with them in their large estate. Although younger than both of his sisters, Ravana would always try to be "Noble", saying that he would protect them from harm. This usually earned him a laugh from the two, but it was all in good health. Around the time he was eight, Ravana even began to learn the ways of the sword, something his family held in high regard.

As you can tell, Ravana lived his early life with ease, but all of this could not have lasted forever. Some time after Ravana turned 13, things began to turn for the worst. A rival noble family began to grow envious of Ravana's own family, and was plotting to take over it's assets. Ever since the two families were formed, they had been rivals, mainly for a certain plot of land owned by Ravana's family, but also for other vague reasons. Even though he was still young, Ravana knew that something was going on, being very perceptive for his age, and began to grow worried. Although his parents tried to soothe him, they had no idea what events were about to take place. Although his family knew that their rivals were plotting something, they could never have guessed that they would strike so soon.

It all happened during a warm summer night, under the veil of a new moon. A group of the rival families soldiers, along with hired mercenaries made their way to the estate of Ravana's family. They had been ordered to barge into the estate, kill the men, capture the women, and burn the place down. As they approached, it was only by sheer luck that a lone guard had spotted them, as it was so late at night. Waking the rest of the household, the guard told the family of the oncoming invaders, much to their dismay. Knowing that staying would certainly mean death, Ravana's father ordered Ravana's mother to take the kids and flee. He would stay behind and uphold the families honor, even if it cost him his life.

So, it was as the soldiers and mercenaries approached the estate that Ravana's mother was able to flee through a secret passage with Ravana and his two sisters. As they made their escape, they looked back in horror as the invading group had set fire to the estate. This, however, was the least of their worries, as soon, a group of the soldiers, now on horseback, quickly caught up to Ravana, his mother, and his two sisters. Of course, the soldiers knew their orders; kill the males and capture the females. Ravana, however, did not know this, and drawing his sword he had brought with him, stood up to the soldiers to protect his mother and sisters. Of course, a 13 year old stood no chance against professional soldiers, and soon, Ravana was mortally wounded. As he lay there, bleeding to death, Ravana tried to make one more attempt to get his sword and fight back before finally collapsing and dieing.

After this, everything went black for what seemed like ages. Ravana knew that he wasn't alive anymore, but he also could tell that he hadn't passed on yet. Seemingly trapped in limbo, Ravana's memory of his life quickly began to fade, only leaving him with his name and who he was. After a while, and having forgotten all about his life, Ravana was saved by none other than a Shinigami. Because he knew this wasn't the afterlife, he showed no fear when the Shinigami came for him, not even remembering his family or what had happened anymore. However, in this end to his life, Ravana was really beginning his new life, one that would lead him all the way to becoming a Shinigami.

Upon being brought to the Soul Society, Ravana was placed into District 78, the Inzuri district, also know as hanging dog. Although he had no memories of his life, Ravana still had his same old personality, and he did remember all that he learned about sword fighting and martial arts. Not remembering how he learned them, Ravana took this as a sign that he was meant to try and help protect others, and quickly acted on this. In only a few short years, he became known as "The Protector of the hanging dog." Ravana spent most of his time trying to help protect many of the children of the Inzuri district, trying to work where ever he could to get money to buy them food. Despite being constantly busy, Ravana somehow found the time to continue training in the way of the sword. Many of the children looked up to him because of this, and for a while, things were good.

However, once again, as seems bound to happen, things could not always stay good and happy. Out getting some food for the kids, Ravana began to notice something odd; a presence that just didn't fit in the district. Not knowing what this could be, he quickly returned to the place he and the kids called home to return the food. Still disturbed by a presence he could not describe, Ravana picked up his sword, an item he had bought to help protect the kids, and headed out. Not really being able to sense reitasu, Ravana could only go off of this weird feeling, so it took him a while to find his target. However, once he began to notice an absence of people, Ravana knew he was on the right track.

After rounding another corner, Ravana finally found the source of the odd presence; a large, menacing monster he would later learn to be a hollow. This, however, was not what disturbed Ravana the most. Only a few feet from the monster, a young girl lay, unconscious and obviously hurt by the hollow. Being the heroic type that he is, Ravana could not just let her be eaten by this monster, and against better judgment, drew his sword, ready to confront the monster. However, what Ravana didn't notice was that the hollow's attention had shifted from the girl to him, and he only had mere seconds to dodge a thrusting attack launched by the hollow. Standing back up and facing the hollow, Ravana held his sword up and rushed the hollow, bringing his sword down hard upon the beast. To his own surprise, however, his attack had hardly even left a scratch. Knowing that if he were to leave the beast would kill the young girl, Ravana had to steel his resolve and stand against this monster.

After a few minutes of dodging and failed attacks against the hollow, Ravana was reaching his limit. The hollow, sensing this, took the opportunity to land a devastating blow upon Ravana, sending him flying back, only to land in a pile of old building materials, bleeding a lot. Although he did not fully remember it, blurred flashbacks of his life began to play in his head. To Ravana, however, they seemed to be only the delusions of a man who was about to die. trying his best to get up and grab his sword, a sense of deja vu came over him, as he felt he had done this before. Distracted, Ravana was easy prey for the hollow, who once again stabbed at him with it's claws. Although he managed to move out of the way, the hollows claw did make contact with his left cheek, leaving a deep wound. Yes, this is where Ravana's scar comes from.

Feeling that he was on the brink of death, it was luck that lead 3 shinigami to him and the hollow. Yes, although it had taken a while, the Shinigami of the Gotei 13 had made it to the hollow. Near the point of passing out, Ravana fell to the ground as he watched the Shinigami battle and kill the hollow; only making him feel more weak. Before passing out, he was able to make the Shinigami treat the girls wounds before his own, a final act of heroism, quickly followed by him blacking out. What happened after that or what happened to that girl is still a mystery to Ravana, but the one thing that was clear that day was that Ravana wanted to become a Shinigami.

After resting for a few days, Ravana packed up all of his belongings, a small amount thought they were, and went to talk to the children. Telling them about his plans to go and train to become a Shinigami, he left the eldest kid in charge, someone Ravana knew he could trust. With his goodbyes said, he quickly departed, traveling all throughout the Rukongai districts to train himself. For many years, Ravana devoted himself to training, wanting to become as strong as the Shinigami who had protected him that fateful day. Although it wasn't easy, Ravana continued his training until he was strong and old enough to enter the Shinigami General Academy. Now a more mature man, Ravana felt he was ready to take on the challenges to become a Shinigami.

Ravana, of course, was not the only person wanting to enter the Shinigami General Academy, and as all other students had to, Ravana too had to take the entrance exams. Ravana, however, surprised everyone, as in his first try, Ravana had aced the entrance exam, and was one of the few new students who were accepted into the academy. Once in, however, Ravana knew that he would have to work even harder than before, and due to his own personal drive, made sure to be at the top of anything he did. Still, his time at the academy would prove to be another defining point in his history.

Although he didn't remember how he knew it, a lot of his education from his life helped him accel at the academy. Now, this is not to say that he learned about any of this while he was alive, but the thought processes developed then were what helped him grasp many difficult concepts. Because he always seemed to know what he was doing, many of the other students came to him for help. Then again, he also had his share of "rivals", many of them simply disliking him because of his personality, but a few because they were on par with him. Of course, as usual, Ravana didn't let this get to him, and kept on pushing forward. The scar on his left cheek from that hollow all those years ago served as a constant reminder to him that he had to become stronger to protect others.

Finally, after years of training, the final exams were approaching. Although he was confident in his own abilities, even Ravana felt a bit nervous about the exam. All of his years of training to become a Shinigami would all be put to the test in one single exam, and to be honest, that was enough to make anyone nervous. Still, Ravana stood tall, eager to prove to others as well as himself that he had what it took to become a Shinigami. The exam seemed fairly simple; go investigate a disturbance in the Rukongai district. It was known to the proctors that there were real hollows there, but none of the students knew of this. For all they knew, the dreaded exam could be nothing more than a simple mission.

The students, and even the proctors, however, were in for a rude awakening. Once again, it seemed that Ravana would be SOL again. Upon reaching the testing area, it was discovered that, unannounced, multiple hollows had actually broken into the Rukongai districts. Not only were the numbers threatening, but their strength was as well. Having the advantage of numbers, the hollows had no fear about fighting a group of Shinigami students and their proctors. Ordering the students to stand down, the proctors were going to try and buy some time for reinforcements to come, knowing that at the moment they stood no chance. Angered at the prospect of being told to stand down and disregard everything he had learned about becoming a Shinigami, Ravana could not follow that order.

Gathering up any of the students brave enough, he quickly went back to join the proctors in their struggle against the hollow hordes. Although they were not many, Ravana hoped that they would be able to help hold off the hollows until reinforcements arrived. As they reached the proctors, they were once again told to retreat, but Ravana, speaking out from his own will to protect the innocent of the Rukongai districts, told them that they were here to help, and wouldn't run away with so many innocent lives at stake. After his little inspiring words, the proctors finally gave in and allowed the few brave students to help them. As the hollows attacked, Ravana knew that he had to survive, and was not going to be caught dieing before becoming a Shinigami.

And so, the two sides began to fight. Knowing that they would be out numbered, the main goal of the students and proctors was to prolong the battle long enough for help to arrive. At first, although facing greater numbers, they were succeeding at their goal, able to hold off the hollows, and even kill a few of the weaker ones. Soon, however, they found themselves overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of their opponents, and began to be pushed back. Despite this, They all continued to fight; not only was their pride on the line, but the lives of the Rukongai District residents also depended on their actions. But this resolve, however, was not enough to win.

As the battle wore on, it seemed that it was taking forever for reinforcements to arrive, but in reality, it had not been as long as they had thought. Not only that, but it would take time to assemble a group of Shinigami large enough to deal with the hollows. Finally beginning to feel the fatigue of fighting so long, Ravana and the others were nearing the end of their ropes. That was when they had their first causality. trying to protect one of the students, one of the proctors had become distracted. Taking the opportunity, a few of the hollows ganged up on him and overwhelmed him. It was this that finally made Ravana's will falter. Seeing one of the proctors fall almost made him lose all hope. But as the saying goes, the light shines brightest in the darkest hour.

As if sensing his loss of hope, a voice, seemingly out of nowhere, spoke to Ravana. "So, is that it?" it asked "Are you telling me that ll you are is talk?" As the voice spoke to him, Ravana looked around, trying to see where it was coming from. "Hah, fool, you can't find me out there" the voice said, mocking Ravana's efforts. It was then that Ravana realized who the voice belonged to, the spirit of his Zanpakuto. "If you really wanna become a Shinigami kid, then you can't go dieing here. If you survive this battle, then maybe I'll share with you my powers." And with that, the voice faded away. Standing there for a second, it looked almost as if Ravana were giving up, but anyone who knows him would know that he never gives up.

Suddenly, a grin crossed his face, and in a flash, he was back in the battle, his resolve restored. With this boost of confidence, Ravana was able to help the group hold out longer, and even managed to take down one of the stronger hollows. Before long, their reinforcements finally arrived, and with their help, the hollows were finally defeated. Exhausted, Ravana was barely able to stand, let alone report on what had happened. Laughing a bit, the captain that had come along with the reinforcements allowed Ravana to go back to his room and rest. Not needing to be told again, Ravana headed back to his room and collapsed on his bed, instantly falling asleep.

The next day, Ravana was surprised to hear that the heads of the Shinigami General Academy, along with the Captain from the other day, wanted to meet with Ravana and the other students who helped hold the hollows back. Although all there were nervous, thinking that they were going to be punished for disobeying orders, they could hardly believe it when they were told that they were all graduating the academy, with high recommendations to the Gotei 13. Ravana in particular, for leading the group of brave students, was recognized, causing him a great deal of humbleness/shyness. He could hardly stop smiling or blushing for the rest of the day.

This, however, was short lived, as starting the next day, he would officially join the Gotei 13. Looking back at everything that had happened, the fact that he was finally a Shinigami suddenly took effect. The goal he had been aiming for for so long was now obtained. But, somehow, Ravana didn't feel this was enough. Having seen a captain fight and lead his men, Ravana knew that his next goal was already set; to become a captain. But, that goal was still far off, and Ravana applied himself to his duties for now, trying to prove his worth. Through doing many missions, Ravana's thoughts began to shift back to his Zanpakuto, namely it's spirit.

After training and doing many missions, Ravana finally had the encounter his Zanpakuto's spirit had promised. Upon entering his own inner world, Ravana was shocked a bit. The grandeur of the landscape easily caught his breath. After getting over the initial shock, Ravana began to explore his inner world. Although he knew it was his inner world, Ravana was still at a loss for words. Nothing he had learned about this could have prepared him for the real thing.

After wondering around for a while, he eventually made his way to the center of his inner world, and there, the biggest surprise yet awaited him. There, hovering off the side of a large cliff, was a huge dragon, many times the size of Ravana himself. Despite an initial fear, Ravana quickly approached the dragon, pushing any fear from his mind. "So, it seems you have survived long enough" the dragon said, it's voice echoing not from the dragon itself, but from inside Ravana's own head "but if you are truly ready to use my powers, you must surely be able to say my name." Of course, at first, Ravana just looked at his Zanpakuto spirit, about to ask if it was serious, but catching himself, he began to think about it. In his thoughts, Ravana went back over his first encounter with a hollow, his time at the academy, and the fateful day when he first heard the voice of his Zanpakuto's spirit. Grinning, Ravana had found the answer he was looking for, not from his past, but from his heart.

"Well then, you really think you're ready, Lóng Fènnù?" Ravana asked, showing that he knew the name of his Zanpakuto's spirit. "Ha, very good kid, but only the future shall know if you truly are worthy of my powers." And with that, Ravana was back in the real world, his Zanpakuto now in it's shikai. Over the next years, Ravana continued to train, always keeping in mind his goal to become a captain. Eventually, when the Aizen incident happened, Ravana knew what he had to do, and before the final battle, he eventually learned his bankai. Because of the chaos of that battle, it is not clear what role Ravana played, but due to his efforts, and the need of captains, Ravana became captain of squad 5 soon after.

Roleplay Sample: (Note: this is a post from me from another Bleach site, but hey, it's what I've got, lol. Also note that this site only had 5 squads, lol.)
As his Kido collided with Artix's Zanpakuto, Ravana was able to catch a glimpse of Artix's features; it seemed that the alcohol might be wearing off, and his clouded judgment may be defogging. Watching as the kid flew off into the ground, Ravana stood still, waiting to see what he would do next. Although that hit did seem to jog the kid's memory a bit, Ravana knew that these feelings the kid had were quite strong. Then again, if his judgment was now clear, the kid could still try to attack him and continue the battle, as he was a member of squad 5.

As all of these thoughts were swirling around in his head, Ravana was disrupted from his thoughts as he saw Artix rising to his feet. Judging by the kids grin, he was able to see things clearly, but by listening to his tone, Ravana could tell that things weren't over. "Well, you're finally gonna man up, eh?" he said before Artix had finished. Hearing the second part of the kid's sentence, he sighed a bit. Sure, although he had not taken any damage, he was still feeling the effects of having fought Artix, whereas it seemed that Artix was almost unaffected. Even if they were both roughly at the same level, Artix had a slight advantage in his moral, having just faced his inner demons.

As Artix made his way closer, Ravana stood his ground. That was, until the kid lunged at him, seemingly putting all of his might into the attack. As it seemed that the attack was going to make contact, Ravana sidestepped it, circling around to be behind Artix. Sure, the attack, although strong, was made slightly easier to dodge due to the distance between them, but still, it was close. Knowing that he would have to up the ante now that Artix was going all out, Ravana sighed a bit, and raised his Zanpakuto up in front of himself "Cut them all down, Ikusen Kireme!"

With that, a blast of spiritual pressure came from Ravana and his Zanpakuto, strong enough to push away any opponent that happened to be standing too close to him. The spiritual pressure took on the form of swirling winds, but it was a pale silver in color. As the pressure continued to swirl around him, an almost transparent pale silver aura enveloped the blade of his Zanpakuto. With that, the swirling spiritual pressure dissipated, leaving Ravana standing there in his shikai. Now, to the untrained eye, it would seem like nothing had changed, and even people who could sense the increase in his spiritual pressure would not be able to notice much of a difference. In fact, the only visible difference was the semi-transparent aura surrounding the blade.

"Now, let's see how much you can take" Ravana said before using shunpo to appear behind Artix. Quickly and fluidly, Ravana slashed across his opponents back, followed by another slash to bring the sword back, creating a two-combo slash. This, however, was not all; as soon as Ravana had slashed his Zanpakuto each time, ten more slashes were created, making twenty in total. Now, the slashes were as quick as Ravana had slashed his actual Blade, and they all seemed to converge upon his opponent at the exact same time as Ravana's Zanpakuto. Not even someone who had trained their body to feel the slightest of differences would be able to tell any difference in the timing. Following Ravana's will, the slashes hit his opponent from all four sides, five in front, five to the right, five to the left, and five from behind.

This was the true power of Ravana's Zanpakuto, or at least the power it showed in it's Shikai form. Anyone foolish enough to try and take Ravana out by head on attacks would be met by the multiple slashes he could conjure up with only one swing of his sword. This ability seemingly left no openings for head on attacks, so his opponent would either have to devise a way to fight at a distance or suffer multiple wounds before even being able to lay a finger on Ravana. Then again, since his opponent was one of the fight loving members of squad 5, it seemed overtly obvious that he would rush in to close range without a single care for what injuries he might receive.
