RANMA GEKIRETSU

Ohhh… he didn’t really consider himself a tea guy, but cheers. It… warmed him up more than he expected. It was a bit tough on the tongue at first, since he was more used to colder drinks, but over time, he eased into drinking it normally- not before putting some milk in it, though. So much focus in that one action.

“Ooooooooh… I can try. Always felt like a Bakudō guy,” he replied, quickly feeling his confidence return. Bakudō, that was his homefield when it came to Kidō – since he showed a strong preference for that tree, Hinamori-sensei was quick to attempt to build upon that. “30s… hmmmh… mmhhhmmmmm…” Ranma tried to remember just what those spells around #31 were.

Geki was a quick, simple spell, but if a dummy could push back against it, then so could a Shinigami or Hollow. She was right to worry that he might be in need of elevating his arsenal, and since they were now talking about Bakudō, he was almost leaning over the table with widened eyes full of sparkles. “What… what spell are we talking about, now? I’m game, especially if it’s like Geki. Like some sort of… super Geki- wait, forget I said that.”

He took another sip of his tea and melted back into his seat, feeling a bit too homely in her abode. He was glad that he hadn’t weirded her out nearly as much as he did Morikawa-sensei.

RANMA GEKIRETSU

There it was. Haineko, the Vice-Captain’s Zanpakutō. Ranma betted that the two of them had a strong bond and camaraderie with each other, much unlike he and his Zanpakutō… but what was the deal with Hōkamaru, again? Was he mad at Ranma, or was he shy? Was he being grumpy, or was he trying to tell Ranma something and Ranma was just being a brainlet about it? Who knew… one thing was certain – their bond, however transparent it looked, was strong enough to illicit them both on a first-name basis.

Ranma would make use of all of his skills to convince Ranny to give him a good word. That included Hōkamaru, too. “Let’s give her a rockin’, Hōkamaru. I’ll try not to fold in the meantime,” he reassured himself and his spirit, almost snuggling the sheathed Asauchi up to his face before unsheathing.

Hnnnng, I can already see her jaw drop at my first move! Hinamori-sensei really brought out the artist in me, after all~!

Incantation-less Hadō spells were still a relatively new topic to him, but Hinamori-sensei made its machinations clear. And the spell he’d been training the most lately was Shakkahō, so it was up – right in front of his extended palm, he released the sake of its name: “Hadō #31: Shakkahō!” In front of his extended, free palm, a red orb manifested, flared up akin to a torch, and then burst forth as a ball of fire with… less speed than usual. Almost surprisingly slow for someone as ol- I mean, as battle-harnessed as Vice-Cap’n Matsumoto.

But Ranma didn’t wait for more than a second before leaping forward himself. And the twist was… he wasn’t aiming his sword at today’s sparring partner. Nay, he instead kicked the Shakkahō orb itself with his foot, channeling his Spiritual Energy through the shin to add extra explosive power, which ended up smashing the orb forward like a football at high speed. He figured that, for now, this extra speed could make up for lack of firepower… at least, until he got a stronger knack for incantation-less casting. He just needed more time to bring out the full power of his spells when abandoning chants, and Hakuda worked really well with that!

Shakkadan! It’s my own, little twist~. It was the extent of how much he could alter a spell, merely changing one of its most linear outputs.

RANMA GEKIRETSU

”Shakkahōōōōōōō!”

The Vice-Captain would be able to hear howls in the far background. A certain someone was breaking character by sticking around for further practice, even after a lot of the other Squad members had called quits. Those who knew Ranma were curious to see what he was up to, baffled at him tiring himself out with-

“Shakkahōōōōōōō! Hadō #31: Shakkahō!”

”AYO, RANMA, KEEP IT DOW- WAIT, THOSE WERE FOR TOMORROW, YOU DUMBASS!”

A joyous, giggly laughter echoed through the walls – Ranma was having a great time, sadly to the paranoia and dismay of his squadmates. He’d always been a sort of a gremlin in Squad 8, the kind whose next move you just couldn’t really predict due to how their brains were wired differe- wrong. Just an enigma in a dead man’s garments doing the first thing that came to mind.

“Shakkahōōōōōōōō…!”

At one point, the echoes died down. Peace returned to Squad 8, and silence befell the rooms and offices once more. His terror had ended at long last, and people could rest easy – that was, until the door to the Vice-Captain’s office opened up more, leading a bratty, cocky, confident smirk plastered to a Shinigami’s face into Matsumoto’s workplace, aiming straight for the desk. Too single-minded to wait for her to finish her paperwork, he did as many times in the past – slam his hand on the desk, glare Matsumoto straight in the ti-EYES, and request with a lower, bravado-sprinkled voice: “So about that Seat, Vice-Captain Matsumoto…”

In times past, his way of entering the office alone had elicited a ‘not yet’ from his superiors, but Ranma thought that he’d gathered quite the resume by now. A Shikai, and a growing aptitude for Kidō – in a way, he was halfway to what the Seated Noharu referred to as a ‘4/4 Shinigami’.

RANMA GEKIRETSU

Why was it reverting back to its previous form?! What sorcery was this?! Ranma’s bulging eyes were fixated on that damn dummy now, intent to unveil Hinamori-sensei’s secret Kidō- fuck, was it Hadō or Bakudō- whatever she was using! But he saw nothing out of the ordinary – just waves of Spiritual Energy outlining the dummy until it was sufficiently repaired!

No fair! It was like Kaidō, but on an inanimate object! Like reversing time on a thing… wait, shit, maybe Ranma could do that with Hōkamaru… no, it only slows down things. Maybe its Bankai would be able to? Aww, he couldn’t wait to convince Hōkamaru to manifest in the outer world for him… a glorious day to behold.

So now… he was going to cast the same spell without the chant. Should be entirely possible, since he knew how it felt to cast Shakkahō, and… it was simple to imagine. It was a red flare, a ball of energy that manifested as red fire. He wasn’t an artist, but he was imaginative. “Got it. Shouldn’t take so loooooooooooooooo-“ Ranma spoke up cockily, his confidence taking a blow to the groin when the dummy was obliterated by Hinamori-sensei’s own, chant-less Shakkahō.

“… Fuck…”

Ah yes, classic profanity in the garden – Ranma could feel his soul getting heavier with guilt and karma. Better try this out before Hinamori-sensei would pinch him or anything. Red flare, red ball, red blast. Red, red, red, red, red, red, red- his brain began repeating that image over and over again. Such a linear spell. “Hadō #31: Shakkahō!”

And from his palm, an orb half the size of a cantaloupe shot out, notably dealing way less damage to the dummy than he was able to prior. “… Oh, wait, maybe I got to use both hands,” he corrected himself before trying again, balling his hands up, “Hadō #31: Shakkahō!” Thrusting both palms forward, he released another red ball of Spiritual Energy flaring up like a foxfire, but… it did the exact same thing-

Even he could see that it was weaker than before! “… Am… am I not using it enough?”

MOMO HINAMORI

“Well done. That was a great effort.” Momo replied with a smile, nodding with approval. He was pretty good with the spell and the ex Lieutenant was sure that he could move on to chant skipping. It would be tougher but she had faith in her new student.

The target had taken quite the battering but if Ranma was paying close attention, he might just notice that it would eventually glow with energy, before regenerating back to the way it was before. An unusual use of kido but after all her years experimenting, the dark haired woman had come to understand that it truly was a matter of imagination and creativity, as far as using it were concerned. Honestly, she thought the academy might just be a little old fashioned. Still, it had its uses.

Giving him a few moments to recover, Momo would then continue with the lesson. “Now, I want you to repeat the same process but this time don’t utter the chant. Remember how the spell feels during casting and if it helps, visualise it in your mind as well. When you are ready, try with just the number and the name. Like this.”

Turning to the target, shaped like a white haired young Captain, Momo would simply raise a hand and point at it. “Hadō #31: Shakkahō!” The ball of flame would burst from her hand and soar towards the target, striking it directly and obliterating it completely, leaving nothing more than a charred remains behind. Again though, what was left would start to glow and soon enough, it would be ready for us again.

With that, she’d smirk up at Ranma and say. “All right. Your turn now.”

RANMA GEKIRETSU

”’Scuse me, house-chan,” Ranma mumbled before entering Hinamori-sensei’s abode, already triggered by the fragrant smell of flowers nearby. He almost thought that Erica was here, too- wait, fuck, he should’ve invited Erica!!! She would’ve loved to see all these new spells too, he couldn’t just hog all the teachings and nuggets to himself! Bad Ranma!

S-Sorry, sorry, sorryyyyyyyyyy, Erica! I promise, I’ll take you with me next time!

Looking at the garden he was led to further made it clear how much he fumbled not taking Erica with him. She would’ve loved this place… yup, it’s a promise! He kinda just wanted to take a bottle and relax, lay on the grass and let the pleasant breeze carry his thoughts away… but he came here for a little bit of training, didn’t he?! So he could further expand his competences, right?! Just like Morikawa-sensei and Erica practiced day and night, he too needed much more… what could you call it, discipline?

At least, he needed much more than what he had escaped the Academy with. One step at a time, Ranma… just like Morikawa-sensei taught you.

“Oh, you got other gue- those aren’t guests,” Ranma commented, swiftly correcting himself once he realized that some of the practice targets on the fence were moving around as if alive! “H-How… wait, is that some Bakudō spell going on there? But… you’re not even- how- was it moving all this time? Did you just cast it? But I didn’t see you…”

He had to grab his head before it’d fall off his shoulders from overheating. Hinamori-sensei did something devious to make these targets move, and he hadn’t the patience to figure out here and now, neither did he have the deductive capabilities to hit the nail anyway.

“… Some funny-looking Hollows ya got here,” he joked about, poking some of the still targets that seemed to resemble the masked soul-eaters. He could’ve sworn that one of them looked like a floating eyeball, but he must’ve been fooling himself. Not to mention the two most charred ones… looked like Shinigami with Captain outfits. “… These aren’t real Captains, right? Who even are they?” he felt the need to ask, poking the small guy’s dumb face first, “Even I’m taller than this dude. Imagine that… and who’s the nerd with the glasses? Actually, you know what, nevermind…”

Almost ousted himself for forgetting what felt like history… of some sorts. Argh, listen, who cared?!?!?!!?

Okay, she gave the green lights to go all out, firstly demonstrating his best spell – with incantation. That… was a brainwrecker, for while Ranma liked Bakudō, he didn’t know that many spells in that category. Not nearly enough to justify calling himself a Bakudō specialist, not one bit. He’d tried out Enkōsen before, and… Sekienton, and Seki too. Ah, that sounded more like stuff for another day – let’s just stick to Hadō today, shall we?

“… Alrighto,” he finally signaled, lifting both hands up to his chest in order to channel his Reishi to the space between them. From there, a crimson light emerged, turning bright in the center and heating up until flares manifested. Now that I think about it, Shura kept launching these in our fight like it was nothing…

"Ye Lord, Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south," he chanted deeply, his chant visibly increasing the intensity of the flares amidst his palms that grew into an orb large enough to press against his hands, licking blood-red flames trickling between his fingers. Once the orb was the size of a cantaloupe, he declared: “Hadō #31: Shakkahō!”

The orb was fired forward towards the charred dummy with the glasses, nailing it right on the face and spreading a wave of fire out on impact. “Holy shit! That might just be my best Shakkahō yet…” he patted himself on his own shoulder, rubbing his nose in a little sense of pride. “So, whatcha think?”

Hono Kaen

Artist: - Song: - Word Count: 338

Honestly, Hono's blood was already flowing, the woman really missed the rush she got from fighting like this. After all, cooking didn't exactly get her going quite like this. The thoughts of the fight flowed through her head, pushing every other thought to the side.

Hono had put quite a bit of force into that swing, the Shinigami would press into the clash as well, wanting to show Yuri just how much stronger physically she had gotten since their last bout. The last thing she wanted was to lose a hold like this. Though common sense in a fight would mean Yuri was gonna use this hold to her advantage.

"You think I'm gonna let something like that stop me? Come on... I'm stubborn..." She was starting to feel a bit of numbness and weakness. Thankfully the woman had the willpower to stay up. The second she felt the numbness she would push forward, and take a leap backward, putting distance once again between her and Yuri, attempting to escape from the feathers.

"If you want me to use my Shikai... you're gonna have to try harder than that!~ I don't want the fight to end so quickly..." She taunted the woman, a devious smirk on her face. Hono extended her left hand forward, hoping she put enough distance between her and Yuri as she focused. She knew Yuri was more skilled in Kido than her, hell Hono still had to use incantations, but Hono was gonna use what she had.

If Yuri was able to close the distance, she'd easily be able to stop Hono from chanting, if not she'd finish her chanting.

"Mask of blood and flesh, inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south! Hadō #31! Shakkahō!"

Hono would cast the highest level Kido she possibly could, one she was finally able to cast confidently with the help she got from Mizu. A small red ball of flames formed in Hono's hand before it manifested as a beam directed at Yuri.

Elyss Kishimoto

"I hope you're reborn, Asher. You're strong, and no doubt your next life will be just as strong. When we meet again, let's throw down."

Despite the situation, Elyss couldn't help herself, staring the Arrancar down as he fired his Cero. Of course, being so close to him, she felt her skin melt under the intense heat and pressure he emitted, but she couldn't stop here. If she let go, he'd be able to move, he'd be able to dodge Yuuto's attack, and he'd be able to keep going until they couldn't. It's now or ever, so why not put every last bit of herself and even more into her next attack.

""Ye lord!" She started, pulling her right arm back, feeling her energy piling through her body towards her hand. Muscles tightened as she forced every ounce of herself to move, defying her own incapability to grant Yuuto his one chance. She could feel her energy fighting her, tearing her muscles and popping veins, but she clenched her fist and gritted her teeth.

"Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Inferno and pandemonium, the sea barrier surges, march on to the south!"

Her clenched fist is slowly forced open as she chanted, a ball of red burning energy growing larger by the second as all of her Reiatsu is given form, a gift that none other but herself could give Asher. Even as she found herself tearing apart, she put on a smile, a deranged flashing of teeth like none other before she clenched her fist and popped her own Kido spell around her fingers, causing it to spill and encompass her fist, that energy spiraling as she thrusted herself around Asher to his front.

"Hadō #31. Shakkahō!"

She punched, swinging her arm wildly for his face. She didn't care which mouth she hit, and she didn't care as she completely annihilated her own arm as she punched through one of his Cero, literally forcing his own energy to bend around her flaming fist, ascending the power of her own strength by pushing his own attack and her fist into his open maw. She didn't care if Yuuto took her arm off with his attack. She didn't care if he cut right through her entire body.

The thrill of putting it all on the line like this for no other reason but a good fight, what other reason is there to do something like this? She could hardly even think about protecting the world, but she knew that at the end, she's either a hero or a failure.

Elyss Kishimoto

He didn't like her striking his back. Elyss doesn't have any expression on her face to show, but her eyes held enough determination to at least share her warrior spirit with Asher. They're both focused on this single interaction after all, but he has a weapon and she doesn't.

It's not the first time Elyss has tussled with armed combatants, so she found it easy to maneuver herself. Dodging wasn't an option for her, so she raised her left arm, watching his blade begin digging into her skin. She didn't show any surprise when she noticed that edge digging through her natural defenses, but she quickly countered by slamming the palm of her free hand into the edge of his Zanpakuto. Energy leaking from her palm, she dulled his advance as she felt his momentum turn her.

Her grip tightened then as she pushed against him, grabbing his katana. Yuuto'd come then, doing what he desired, but Asher would also have to worry about Elyss' glowing grip.

"Hadō #31: Shakkahō," She chanted like before, an explosion happening between the two that'd send her launched backwards towards the ground and maybe leave Asher open for Yuuto to finish his assault.

Elyss Kishimoto

Hmm...

She didn't say anything else, tilting her head as her eyes looked up towards the mass of energy slicing its way to the two Captains. It was a simple matter to move out the way, but Yuuto had opted to face Asher head-on than to reposition himself. It was obvious that he lacked the strength to stave off his opponent, but Elyss had faith in Yuuto's speed.

Faith alone though...

It's sometimes best to rely on statistics than belief, and the unsure answer of if he could win lingered in Elyss' mind. Both of them have released, but Yuuto's not getting anywhere close to coming out on top. Fighting integrity or friendship: in the end, Elyss only grumbled at the idea that she'd never face Asher alone. Despite herself, he looked fun.

"Hadō #31: Shakkahō," Elyss muttered, preparing the spell in her hand.

As the two traded blows, she took a spot into the sky to the side, pointing her palm downward. Pouring what she can into it, she took aim at Asher and let loose the Kido while Yuuto went on the offensive. Her aim is to slow down the Arrancar do that Yuuto can land a fulfilling hit. Arrancar lack the regenerative abilities of Hollow, so unlike last time, any damage is going to stick.
