Dust and noise. This is how massacres begin.

The intrepid sweat of fear, the jolt of adrenalin from suddenly waking. Crumbling earth gave way to panicked screams, flaring lights and spiritual pressure arriving in measure. Underneath the accompanied feet, the ground would pulse - a rhythm of force.

The assault had already begun, the majority of forces sprawling themselves from the ever gaping wound of Africa. Over encumbered pus, monsters clawing over one another to gnaw at some unfortunate soul. Some considered themselves angels, some saw themselves as opportunists; all monsters, much the same.

All would end the day reeking of death.

The rhythm. That beating force rattling the walls of the hole, more rank and file pouring themselves from underneath - cut away. A knife plunging into eardrums.

      "SSSCCCRRREEEAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

Thunder after lightning, the wingbeat that followed the massive hollow emerging from the hole a wall of force. The bulk of its form blurring into the sky, tail whipping side to side as it readied itself, taking to glide in a circle above the hole. Crossed eyes darting independently of another, flicking into various directions as the hollow processed the scene. As if making a decision, it would turn to the north, another screech roaring as it attempted to jet into the distance.

ALEX VAUGRENARD

Fucking spectacular. As Alex moved briskly through the rapidly-decaying battlefield with a cigarette in his mouth, he reasoned that it was probably better that he’d gotten here sooner rather than later. After all, God knew it looked like things were going to shit here, having all hands on deck was gonna be a necessity. If it were just these fucking hollows, the redhead would have just turned up the heat enough to incinerate them before they even got close, but he wasn’t in the business of burning people up in the crossfire.

Ah, fuck. Looked like something bigger was on the scene now. Well, a whole lot of bigger somethings, but whether it was shit luck or some act of God or something, it looked like Alex was the one on the scene for the creature that’d just shot out of the hole. It was probably getting away faster than he could catch it if he tried to run, too. Fuck. He oughta learn to fly or something one of these days. Well, just chasing it wasn’t gonna work out, so Alex went for the next best thing. There was debris all over the place, between the old suburbs and the ruins of the perimeter that’d been set up. Picking up the nearest substantial piece of rubble, bigger than Alex himself, he leveled it carefully as he let it get nice and hot in his hand. Just a rock wasn’t gonna cut it as a projectile.

But a superheated rock? Well, if the heat haze shimmering off it was any indication, it’d probably hurt something fierce on impact. Heaving it with all his strength, the impromptu projectile rocketed off faster than Alex ever could’ve given chase. Not bad, but he’d have to hope it actually did something to the thing, or that he got some backup here.

Elyss Kishimoto

Chaos burned the landscape, a painting of catastrophe being formed before their very eyes. Soldiers cried for a savior, preying that God filled them with the strength necessary to survive. Many infant to war. Many having to run before they knew how to walk. It's ugly, but Elyss was never a woman of beauty. Even now, her face held no womanly charm, only that of a sickened hero, looking to become the worst villain for everything she believed in. Mercy was her forte, but her heart beat without love, demented fury coating her blemished skin. She did not arrive immediately to the battlefield because it was up to her to make sure the accurate forces were mobilized, but with that done, there proved no reason to not drop Hell onto these Hollow. Besides, they should be used to damnation by now.

Funnily enough, she emerged in the sky, a Senkaimon dropping her off above the battlefield. She wished to view the chaos first and gauge which area needed her the most. That's how she came in contact with the damn giant buzzard that had decided to fly by. To say the least, something of that size needed to be dealt with before it laid waste to everything around it. As it flew by, she'd attempt to grab its tail, the ferocious beating of its wings little deterrent to the bastion of a warrior. Even if it tried to get rid of her, her grip would loosen none as she'd begin to climb it. A punch to the gut should slow it down a bit, ignorance to the coming heated boulder putting her in the perfect spot to help it land.

Ants scurried hurriedly. Some from the sky, some from the dirt. All ants, much the same.

The hollow had no want for ants. No desire. Yet they still clung in vanity, biting. The woman that grabbed at its tail was largely free to act as she wished, the erratic swinging of the tail in attempt to dislodge her mostly ineffective.

Meanwhile the beast's right wing exploded, a massive plume of feathers churning down to the ground beneath as fire roared into the remaining plumage. An incidental hole peeking through the smoke. Another ear-rending screech, a slight falter in the wingbeat as it decided to turn back.

      "SSSCCCRRREEEAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

Eyes, darting into infinity. The wind underneath smothering the flames as the hole stitched together, the frustrated spasm of the tail accompanied with a dive. These ants would not make for much, the hollow thought, but the hatchlings would need food. If it could feel, some could even describe the thought as 'angry'.

Talons opened as it neared the ground, looking to rip into the earth and pull up whoever might be in its way. Aimed at the ant that poked so fiercely at it, slamming the tail into the ground reflexively as it did to rid itself of the other, nasty, itching insect.

ALEX VAUGRENARD

At least that was a face Alex was glad to see in a fight. There were only so many people on Earth that he was sure he'd be willing to fight alongside, but Elyss was undoubtedly near the top of the list. Not that he had too much time to celebrate, and even if he didn't entirely expect her to hear it, he still called out either way.

"Yo, sis! Nice timing!"

If this fucking bird wanted to dive on in and bring the talons, that was just fine in Alex's book. Rather than try to dodge it, he rolled his shoulders to prepare, and watched what it was doing. Looked like a straight line, probably gonna try to snatch him up, eh? He could work with that. The whole of the area around him quickly heated up, the ground under his feet starting to crack and scorch as wayward sand turned to glass.

As soon as the bird got close, Alex swung his fist down with all his might, superheated earth exploding upward like shrapnel and impacting even his own body. He hadn't quite gotten it hot enough to pierce his own body, but it'd definitely been getting up there. If this bird proved a little resistant to frying, Alex'd have no choice but to start cooking himself a bit too.

Talk about a lack of synergy, but it's not like Elyss was prepared for any interference from outside forces. The last thing on her mind was taking a flaming boulder to the face, or back, or any part of her body, but Alex's aim isn't bad. He took out the bird's wing, forcing it to change its flight pattern for just a bit until it began healing. Hollow have that annoying ability, but hit them enough, and they'll stay down. That's what she'd like to have done, but she found herself holding on for dear life as the giant pigeon dove straight for Alex.

She wasn't at the brunt of Alex's response, but she can feel the heat from where she is. To make matters worst, she's slammed onto the ground, her grip tightening as she didn't let go. Maybe the bird'll be too distracted being cooked alive to actively ward her off. She might as well try to help more than she is, so, rising, she took hold of the bird's tail feathers and pulled, hoping to lift the giant beast with her immense strength and slam it away from Alex onto its back. From there, hopefully the Hollow is too banged up to do anything and leave the two redhead's to beat it some more.

      Pain.

The hollow screeched as talons scraped into burning hot earth, the material turning sharp before exploding upwards and into the creature. Smoke clouded upwards as it careened wholly on top of Alex, the tail going limp for a moment as debris drifted in the nighttime air.

Revealing itself was the shredded avian, the bottom of its wings and talons a burnt hodgepodge of shapes. Scrapes and shallow cuts, shrapnel of glass and stone. Feathers strewn themselves wildly across the battlefield, stray souls splitting from their bodies as they came into contact. Stirring, a massive wing slammed groundward, consciousness returning to the beast.

Eyes swiveling into place, the burnt stumps began to regenerate, tail regaining motion to stab towards the woman climbing it. A low growl resonating through every part of it, as it learned what 'annoyance' was.

ALEX VAUGRENARD

That kind of direct impact was the sort of thing Alex had grown used to over the years, even if that didn't mean he actually enjoyed it one bit. You had to roll with the punches when you were throwing down with these sorts, but if there was one thing he genuinely hadn't been expecting, it was just how much that impact fucking hurt. It'd been a while since he felt a kick like that, and the wing slamming downward only made it worse.

Not that it was too big an issue. Alex wasn't some little bitch. As soon as the bird began to move again, so did he, purple flame coalescing on his hands as he went more fully on the offensive. Letting this thing reorient itself was probably a bad call, so the only real option was to keep it off balance. More of the fire quickly formed in his hand, growing until it was about the size of a beach ball. Smaller than the first projectile, sure, but it was a whole hell of a lot hotter. Besides, Alex's flame wasn't exactly normal, and with how much it weighed, it'd probably be about as bad as that first stone, give or take.

Winding up, Alex threw the flame with his full strength toward the beast's regenerating wing, not intent on letting that get back to functioning any time soon. He wanted to aim for the legs, but he'd have to get closer for that, and he only had so much time to make calls. He got moving, but he didn't think this bird was gonna let him just keep wailing on it for free.

Focus. The beast went limp, but that's probably just the shock from taking so much damage in quick succession. Most animals usually give up after being beaten so low, but this is a Hollow. It'll start to regenerate, and once it has enough function returned to it, it'll take off again. Elyss doesn't want to resort to needless brutality, so calculated strikes are necessary. The battlefield is a mess, so preserving herself is a necessity.

With the beast down though, she allowed herself a moment to understand Alex's next move. Already, she can hear tissue sowing itself back together, movement returning to the Hollow faster than she expecting. That simply means this creature is stronger than your average mindless beast, and with its size, no doubt it'll become a nuisance if allowed to get centered. Well, guess she should try and work with her big bro on this one.

Abandoning staying close to the bird, she jumped into the air, platforms of Reishi underneath her feet and she pointed her finger down, chanting, "Give breath to my contempt and spew life where my fingers direct, Hadō Number 1: Shō!"

Powerful force exploded from her finger, pressure pushing down on the giant Hollow to force it to stay down on the ground. However, "Sho! Sho! Sho!" Beam of air after air cascaded down, berating the fowl with a barrage of Hadō as Alex attacked it, making sure it stays in place hopefully for that burning ball of pure pain.

More pain. An itching thing, picking in fervor as the hollow was assaulted.

Another attack from the fire ant, the heat scorching against the bird's underside. The ire of the creature becoming apparent as a regenerating claw stamped down. In response, the hollow's eyes locked to the man, and the mask yawned. Spiritual pressure mounting in front as a speck of red materialized, the air shimmering about it.

Then, the woman attacked. A repeated assault of kido snapping the creature's concentration, a hammer to glass.

The gathering red shuddered, collapsing from beam to explosion. A ball of energy carving itself into the side of the pit, collapsing the immediate area back and into the hole.

A rockslide of poultry, chased by errant feathers.
